COMMUNITY SERVICE is a category where our 21 members work hard to improve all aspects of our Kihei community.  Here are the projects completed during the 200-10 Rotary year AND WE PLACED THIRD IN THIS CATEGORY.

  • DSG Grant received for the Andy and Elmer Apple Dumpling Adventure project with 2nd graders
  • Needs Assesment - conducted Club Visioning at beginning of year and in May completed Brainstorming New Projects for 2010-11 Rotary year
  • Rotary Gives Thanks - Conducted FIVE separate projects for the Maui Food Bank
  • Rotaract Involvement - 9 members of Rotaract assisted at our Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser; in return for their work, contributed $400 towards expenses for them to attend District Conference
  • Local Media:  Over 30 articles have been published in the local media for joint club and individual RC Kihei Sunrise projects and activities.  All press releases printed were submitted by our PR chair
  • Provide funding and support for Hawaiian Humpback Whale Sanctuary
  • Held a 2-month clothing drive with Curves for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Maui County
  • Keiki Kupboard Project - after holding a successful school supply drive and providing additional funding, one club member works with KK staff to monitor and supply the Kupboards at two elementary schools
  • Kalepolepo Park - continuted adoption of this park with installing BBQ's, painting benches and tables
  • Adopt-A-Highway - held four highway clean-ups of our 2-mile section of North Kihei Road
  • Health/Hunger - Adopted two families-in-need for the Christmas holidays providing $800 in food and gift coupons plus a seven foot Christmas tree for each family
