Five Avenues of Service - New Generations

NEW GENERATIONS is the Fifth Avenue of Service and is one of the main focus of our club's mission statement.  These are the New Generations projects that we organized and took part in the 2010-11 Rotary year AND WE WERE A FINALIST IN THIS DIVISION:

  • Sponsored Rotaract of UH Maui with contributions to attend the D5000 Conference
  • Camp RYLA - two of our members serve as co-directors of this 90-student camp.  We had the highest number of participating Rotary club members volunteer at this camp.. 
  • Our club sponsors the Capanash/Corbett Memorial Scholarship for a student at Kihei Charter HS.  We also support and sponsor the HRYF program.
  • Mentoring/Ethics Projects:  "Andy and Elmer Apple Dumpling Adventure" presented in 3 lessons to 350 2nd grade students at two local elementary schools.
  • 450 Dictionaries presented to 3rd graders at two elementary schools
  • Keiki Kupboard/School Supplies Drive - had drive and presented  collected supplies, proceeds + additional funds to stock throughout the year Kupboards at two elementary schools
  • Worked with RC Kihei Wailea on beautification project at Lokelani Intermediate School
  • With the help of Barnes and Noble, donated 10 book cases to Hawaiian Humpback Whale Sanctuary Education Center
  • Set up and worked interactive Literacy Booth at South Maui Children and Youth Day Faire with RC of Kihei-Wailea; provided a free new book to every child attending event.
  • With RC of Kihei-Wailea presented books and book case for the children at Kihei Youth Center
  • Read Aloud America Program - A large number of our club members participate as Volunteer Readers.  Our club manned the Book Swap Table for three evenings at Kamalii Elementary School
  • Newspapers In Education - provide funding for class set of newspapers for a social studies teacher at Lokelani Intermediate School
  • Books to School Libraries - in lieu of speaker's gift, presented $600 of books to to local elementary school libraries
